For those of you who don’t know what Hanabatta is or perhaps you’re not from the islands (hawaiian) you lose out on that language barrier. But that’s ok, because that basically means, “younger times” it’s an expression that we locals use here in Hawaii.
Hanabatta days meaning, When we were younger… has just re-surfaced for me.
I realized that through facebook and somewhat twitter, that elementary friends kind of pop up out of nowhere. It’s just funny adding them as a friend or following on twitter after not seeing or speaking to them since 6th grade. I find it hilar when they add you. I have to admit though, it’s a nice re touch of getting to know who you were when you were younger. With that, my After school A+ director passed away from cancer. I can recall the many sticks of cigarettes she would smoke during snack time or the times she would smoke before A+ started. She always had a hoarse voice, but still a nice Japanese lady. Her funerals 7 days after my grandpas funeral at the same place… Mauka chapel in Mililani cemetery. Sigh…
Also, aside from emo news, I just read an article of a really good friend of mine since 4th grade. Brooke Dombroski. She’s been pretty much the same person since elementary except that much more creative… she’s lucky her dads a lifeguard and her moms creative period. Check out the article written about her in Contrast Mag.
Good fun for this talented woman. She’s a current lover of the North Shore and have always been. Her hearts been there since the day she first learned how to surf. Now she works for Hurley & Crush Sunglasses. Amazing woman for sure. (follow her on twitter: twitter.com/brooklynhawaii) get on that shabang SOON!
Also, speaking of North Shore, it all started as a tweet from Lea (@lerido). She said, “I want shave ice, stortos, DQ blizzard and wendys. D:” This tweet kind of became a reality once we all agreed we were going to North Shore bound the following day. The plan went from being hungry to, “lets go to the HE>i store, eat at stortos & get shave ice.” What a TWITTER adventure this was for sure. I’m still craving for an acai bowl! Gorgeous bowl of granola, hunny, acai & MANGO straight up from Kava Roots nextdoor to Foodland & starbucks! TA DIE FOR!
that about wraps up for what I have to say with “small time friends”
OH, a friend of mine is going to stop by American Apparel in Las Vegas (he’s there for vacay) to buy me this PRETTY SKIRT that I’ve wanted for summer dress!
